cAP ac netinstall

Sat Apr 20, 2024 1:00 pm

cAP ac consistently reverted to older configuration after reboots (changed SSID and after reboot the old one was back).
Device was running a version from testing channel (7.12.?)
Did
/system routerboard upgrade
after which device became inaccessible.

Tried resetting, netinstall (on both eth1 and eth2) and the app keeps waiting:
$ sudo ifconfig enp25s0 192.168.88.2/24
$ ip addr
...
2: enp25s0:
    inet 192.168.88.2/24 brd 192.168.88.255 scope global enp25s0
...
$ sudo ./netinstall-cli -r -a 192.168.88.3 -i enp25s0 routeros-7.14.3-arm.npk
Version: 7.14.3(2024-04-17 13:49:58)
Will reset to default config
Using Interface: enp25s0
Wait for Link-UP on 'enp25s0'. OK
Using Client IP: 192.168.88.3
Using Server IP: 192.168.88.2
Starting PXE server
Waiting for RouterBOARD...
Is this still solvable? Thanks...

Re: cAP ac netinstall  [SOLVED]

You have to hold the reset button in when power the device and keep holding it after a while you will see that the device will get its RouterOS.

And do you have some another interfaces on the linux computer like wifi.
Disable that, and do you have any firewall settings on the Linux box. Disable that as well.
And if you provide the interface with -i you don't need to provide any ip with -a. It does it for you.
And you have to use eth1 interface on the router.

Thanks, @patrikg

In the end netinstall succeeded, but I used another version (6.49.14, not the latest 7.14.3)
$ ./netinstall -h
Usage: netinstall [-r] [-k keyfile] [-s userscript] -a CLIENT_IP [PACKAGE]+
$ sudo ./netinstall -r -a 192.168.88.3 routeros-7.14.3-arm.npk
Will reset config
Using server IP: 192.168.88.2
Starting PXE server
Waiting for RouterBOARD...
PXE client: 08:55:31:30:..:..
Sending image: arm
Discovered RouterBOARD...
Formatting...
Sending package routeros-7.14.3-arm.npk ...
Ready for reboot...
Sent reboot command
After that winbox was able to detect the device...

You welcome
and thanks for telling me it's working again.

And when you are at it. don't forget also to upgrade the RouterBoot to it's newer version.

It's very easy to do that, just press upgrade button on the RouterBoard menu in webfig.
Or like you said in the cli. So you can use the newer version of netinstall-cli next time.
/system routerboard upgrade
So you have the latest and greatest in both worlds.
RouterOS 7.14.3
RouterBoot 7.14.3
