PowerBox Pro as a POE Switch

Fri Apr 26, 2024 9:57 pm

The wire between my 2 out door APs was damaged by a fire. I also want to be able to add a PtP link.

The POE injector I was using is a 60 watt 56V injector.

Took the POE injector and plugged it into the PowerBox Pro. Whipped out the configuration. Made a bridge. Put all interfaces in it. Added a DHCP-Client to the bridge. Got into the switch chip and added the VLANs. Connected both APs to the PowerBox and they lit right up.

According to spec... The PowerBox Pro has a max power consumption of 54 Watts.

It uses 6 watts.

My access points top out at 20 watts each.

I think that leaves me 8 watts left over for the Wireless Wire AP I wanna add later.

Gotta get a lift to get the PtP up on the roof.

So Far So good.

Plan is to add a RBwAPG-60ad-A and move the North facing AP over to another structure.

Use the RBwAPG-60ad-A is a bridge.
Then a RB960PGS-PB as the switch to power everything.
