Upgrade RB2011 (+ 2 х hAP ac2) to RB4011 to increase wi-fi speed?

Mon Dec 25, 2023 8:24 pm

Hi there

I'm using home system of RB2011 + 2 х hAP ac2 under CAPsMAN. Most home devices supports 802.11ac. 5GHz environment is clear (I'm outside of city), only my network presents on wi-fi analyzer. There is also no interferenсe between two AP (ceiling is made of concrete and steel).
After upgrading to 300 Mbps internet channel (optic) I found that non of my wi-fi devices can achieve (after all the tuning - I started it with 150 Mbps) more than 250-260 Mbps (usually 180-240) measured by Speedtest by oocla. Cupper connections give stable 330 Mbps.
Running Speedtest on a tablet I found that RB2011 CPU load comes up to 95-100%. I guess it means the limit of wi-fi, despite the 300-800 Mbps tx rate in registration table for dedicated devices established connection channels. Provider's support advised to upgrade RB4011 to increase the router performance ("2011's CPU is weak") and solve the low connection speed. Speed is crucial since it for hi bitrate movie streaming. No way to make new copper connections.

Could you please advise if it reasonable? Is RB4011 performance so much higher than 2011?

Upgrade to RB4011 solved the issue completely - speedtest gives 340+ Mbps by air.
